IMPENETRABLE ICONS: ESTONIA (2018)
During a 4 week residency in Tallinn, Estonia though the European Artist Exchange , I began working on a drawing strategy that used simple logo shapes to frame the surface textures I encountered through frequent explorations of the city and country. The results to me are satisfying talismans that mark my encounters of a geographic space and my inability to form an understanding of that space to any satisfying depth. A kind of celebration of that initial, overwhelming feeling of impenetrability. This is a sampling from a body of 25 works.
All works are ink, graphite, pastel on paper, 14 x 20, 2018
